Corresponding to the desire of Voies Navigables de France (VNF) to breathe new life into the quays of the Rhône, led by Jean-Philippe Amy, director of the PataDôme theatre in Irigny, the Île Ô space opened its doors in 2022.
At the junction of Pont Galliéni and Avenue Leclerc, in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, six white cubes arranged on a floating concrete base will give the public access to a new cultural venue. Theatre, hall with orchestra pit, catering area, sheltered panoramic terrace… Île Ô will allow, in the heart of Lyon, on the river, a program of shows, entertainment, receptions and training.
For this 11-metre wide and 45-metre long space, the application of Dutch architect Koen Olthuis (Waterstudio-NL) was selected. This specialist in floating construction with UNESCO has thus signed his first work in France.
Alongside him, Studio DAP is committed to this cultural and environmental innovation. It is responsible for the internal and external acoustic design of this 1200 m2 structure.
