The Nanshan Cultural Centre in the province of Shenzhen, China, will house, among a series of facilities, two performance spaces dedicated to hosting a wide variety of performances and a museum including a conference auditorium. The main performance space will be a theatre with a capacity of approximately 1400 seats, and a smaller space, seating 350 people, which will be used mainly as a Children’s theatre.
The main theatre will be functionally and acoustically capable of housing many different activities and performance types: lyric, ballet and dance, opera, but also jazz, musical theatre, conferences, seminars and banquets.
The project site covers an area of about 23 800 m².
The theatre’s adaptability to a wide variety of programs is achieved by means of a variable acoustics systems consisting on the following:
- Movable ceiling reflectors.
- Acoustic curtains all around the perimeter of the rooms.
- Motorised stage extensions.
- Variable size orchestra pit.
- Concert shell for orchestra performances.
